Swift Greenhouses ran a case study to see how much wattage would be required using our SOL LED fixtures (discontinued - replaced by Alpha), to produce comparable results to their 400W HPS lights (which consume ~470W).
2 Test areas were setup in their main greenhouse, one with "200W" LED fixtures and the other with "300W" LED fixtures. The actual power consumed was 180W and 270W. Multiple varieties of plants were grown in each group and compared to the HPS control at the end of the standard grow period.

It took only 270W of LED to provide comparable results to 470W of HPS, or 43% less power using SOL units. SOL was replaced by Alpha which covers an even larger area with twice the PAR per watt of SOL. This means our new 190W Alpha fixture would outperform a 400W HPS, while using 60% less power for commercial greenhouse applications. When implemented, our Alpha fixtures dramatically decrease operational expenses of greenhouse facilities while simultaneously increasing productivity.
SuperGrow, a manufacturer of commercial container gardening systems, uses multi-layer rack cultivation with LEDs to produce crops from lettuce to basil, tomatoes and cucumbers.
SuperGrow purchased over 40 of our 168X-ECO+ grow lights (discontinued - replaced by 2pcs 84XL) to load up half of their micro-green lettuce racks in one container. The other half was loaded with T5 high output fluorescent fixtures.
Both test areas were balanced to an even 300-400µmol to determine how much difference our LED spectrum would make on growth. The end result was double the lettuce over the same period of growth.
Achieving the 300-400µmol average required 300W of LED per rack and 648W of CFL. Not only did their productivity double by switching to LEDs from Hydro Grow, but their electrical and HVAC costs were reduced nearly 60%. That's double the productivity at less than half the price!
Botanical Solutions is a commercial grower and producer of CBD oil from Cannabis plants. They put our 336X-PRO (now 336XL) lights to the test against the mighty 1000W HPS.

By making the switch to Hydro Grow LED, Botanical Solutions began producing double the oil they were making previously (per gram). Their yield/ft² also increased by more than double, making them over 4X more profitable!
NG Heimos (parent company to Millstadt Greenhouse) uses grow lights for night interruption, photo-period extension, to increase DLI during overcast days and months with reduced daily hours of sunlight.
A study was performed comparing Philips Light strips to the 45W SOL lights (replaced by Alpha) on a watering boom. 4 Lights were hung on each boom, which traveled back and forth down a 100' long row for night interruption.
At the end of the 10 week study it was concluded that the Hydro Grow lights outperformed the Philips strips, at which point more HGL lights were ordered to fill out that house.
Prior to adopting LED technology, there were no lights that could be easily attached to booms for night interruption. Instead large HPS lights were used, consuming astronomical amounts of power to do the job that only 190W of LED was able to achieve. This new method of light implementation saves Millstadt thousands per year per boom area.
In use at Florida Atlantic University today, are more than 100 SOL fixtures from Hydro Grow.
PAR testing in an aquarium environment proved that the patented reflector of SOL (even with 1/2 the PAR output per watt of Alpha or X3), delivered higher PAR intensity at near perfect uniformity through water.
Being the only light of its kind, SOL became the exclusive grow light of FAU for their Algae Bio-Research, illuminating more than 70 tanks!

Our SOL fixtures also reduced the electrical needs (100W vs 250W) over the metal halide fixtures previously in use, while also reducing the need for HVAC and lowering the temperature variances of the water in the tanks.
Back before WA state became legal for recreational marijuana, there was medical marijuana. Green Thumb Initiative was one of the first case studies ever run with Hydro Grow lights, to determine their efficacy in replacing 1000W HID lights. With the risk at the time of large farms being raided by the federal government, the Initiative used several small to mid-scale indoor farms to sustain their large database of patients.
Two farms were chosen for the case study. Each of which was running 1000W HPS and MH lights (50/50) during the bloom stage, for a more complete spectrum to compare against LED. Each was running the same aeroponic DWC systems with clones from the same mother plants under both LED and HID test areas.
Garden one discovered that with only 750W of LEDs from Hydro Grow, they were getting equal or higher yield to 2,000W of HID. They then changed out their HIDs and went 100% LED. Garden two discovered that with only 500W of LEDs, they were achieving equal or higher yield than 1,000W of HID. They then changed out their HIDs and went 100% LED, as did every other garden in the initiative.

We have cut our expenses more than 50% while maintaining equal or higher yield thanks to your grow lights. We also lose less crops due to unforeseen issues since the LEDs are nowhere near as hot as HID."
Green Thumb became the first 100% LED powered Marijuana Dispensary in WA state, using grow lights exclusively from Hydro Grow LED. Their operating expenses were reduced over 60%, the quality of their end product increased, and they never lost another crop under LED due to a HVAC or fan malfunction. This made their supply line more steady and their business more profitable.
Back in 2010 Hydro Grow partnered with Botany Professor Liz Von Volkenburgh, to determine the effect of spectrum on various varieties of plants. Lights were donated to her program in exchange for controlled research inside of the University's growth chambers.
Test groups of lettuce and basil were placed under LED and CFL, balanced to 430µmol/m²/sec. Temps were maintained a continuous 75°F and lighting was set to 16hrs on, 8hrs off.
The lettuce grown under LED produced 39.7% higher yield (9.73g vs 5.86g dry weight) compared to the T5. The basil on the other hand fared better under CFL with a 9% higher yield (10g vs 9.05g dry weight).
The test showed that certain plants (in this case lettuce) are more responsive to a targeted spectrum than others (basil).
Follow-up tests at UW helped develop our current G4 spectrum utilizing the amazing power of green light.

In 2015 CTU ran a technology study comparing LED to HPS lights on clones from the same mother, from veg throughout bloom. The study was recorded via time-lapse camera to demonstrate the difference in growth rate, size and yield.
2 plants were placed under each 520W LED (336X-PRO) from Hydro Grow, and 4 were placed under a dual-bulb 1200W HPS.
The largest two plants from each group were weighed at the end of the test. The LED plants produced 1.5X the yield, despite having access to 62% less watts of light.
After the gram per watt calculations were done, the LED group delivered 4X more than HPS. The test confirmed that a single 336XL will out-yield a 1000W HPS for marijuana.
